DigitalRev’s Top 25 Photography Quotes to Know and Shoot By
Some the legendary photographers and creatives of today and yesterday are not only known for their great works, but also for their notable quotes. Kai and the gang at DigitalRev came out with a video of the top 25 photography quotes that are not only memorable, but applicable to our own photography. In fact, a good handful of these quotes are definitely good principles to shoot by.
It is hard to choose a favorite, but my top three quotes of the bunch are by Ansel Adams and Peter Adams:
The single most important component of a camera is the twelve inches behind it.
– Ansel AdamsA true photograph needs not to be explained nor can it be contained in words.
– Ansel Adams
Great photography is about depth of feeling, not depth of field.
– Peter Adams
All three quotes are similar in concept. As photographers, we should remember that a great image is more than just a combination of focal length, f-stop, shutter speed, and ISO. It is more than the brand name on a camera or lens. We can talk late into the night about the superiority of one camera over another, but in the end, what makes a great photograph is the photographer behind that camera and his visual interpretation of what he sees through the filter that is his creative mind. A great photographer can tell a very compelling story through his images alone.
So beyond knowing the technicalities of your equipment, the most important skill that you can have as a photographer is to become a great visual story teller.
So what are your favorite quotes from DigitalRev’s list? Any other great photography quotes that you want to add?
