DigitalRev: Learn Photography Without Getting Off Your A**

By Paul Faecks on July 19th 2014

Are you lazy and don’t like going out to shoot photos? Do you enjoy sitting on the couch by yourself with your computer, playing a video game? Would you rather learn photography with a simulator instead of an actual camera? If you answered yes to any of those questions, then maybe CameraSim, a computer game created for teaching you photography using a simulator is the answer for you. DigitalRev explores the different options to learn photography without getting off your a** in the typical, tongue-in-cheek manner that you’ve come to know from these guys.

Enjoy the video below:

Kai starts by playing CameraSim, a game that was specifically created to teach you the basics of exposure, composition and other photography basics.

After getting tired of CameraSim, the DigitalRev team comes up with the idea to create their own first-person video game by glueing an iPhone to the viewfinder of a DSLR.

Then they just have to call the iPhone via FaceTime and there you have it – a perfect way to feel like you’re taking photos outside while sitting in front of your computer. (A little drawback to this technique: you actually need someone to walk around with the DSLR…)

CameraSim is not the only way to learn photography from the comfort of your couch, though. If you are serious about learning new photography techniques, you should check out the SLR Lounge the HDR Workshop or the Lightroom Workshop Collection. Of course, we do encourage you to go out and practice what you’ve learned.

What do you think about leaning photography without actually shooting? In my opinion, nothing is better than practice if you want to improve your photography. I’d love to hear your opinion on this in the comment section below.
