Deal Alert: Insane Deal On Elinchrom BRX 500 Lighting Kit

By Anthony Thurston on May 13th 2015

Elinchrom is one of those brands that has a great reputation for producing some of the best lighting equipment for photographers to get their hands on. Their BRX 500 series of lights offer 500 w/s of power in a small, lightweight package and includes modern features such as built-in wireless triggering.

That is what makes today’s deal alert so appealing. For many, Elinchrom lights are on the same level as PocketWizards and Profoto; They would be great to own, but are just out of the budget. That changes today, as you can now get the Elinchrom BRX 500 2 Light kit for a whopping $700 off!

That brings the price that you pay down from around $1,400 to around just $700. How is that for a discount? Seriously though, if you are looking for a quality set of lights that you know will last you for years to come – you won’t find a better option for the price.

If you are interested, you can head on over to B&H today to get yours. But act soon, no telling how long the deal will last.

I picked this deal up from Adorama. Its not $709 anymore but its still at a good price of $799. They also have the BRX 250 2 light kit for $599. And the BRX at full power is REALLY bight, I could of totally got away with the 250s. Just an FYI it you plan on using umbrellas with this kit you must buy reflectors because neither kit come with them.

Sigh, even at $700 that’s a lot to get by the home comptroller. :(

Looks like a sweet deal though.

That’s a good bet. The BRX line isn’t quite as old as the Style was, but it’s been around a while. They’re good lights, buts with a couple of minor downers from a modern perspective. They only go down to 1/16 power (that was NEVER a problem with film or low-ISO medium format digital, but if your small-format camera bottoms out at ISO 100 and you want to use apertures wider than f/2.8, it can be). And the flash duration (t 0.1) at lower powers is a little too long to freeze action (this is not the right flash for product splash photography, even if it is faster than most variable-charge flashes). But think of it this way: you can get a pair of great flashes with a remote trigger/controller AND a couple of “free” Rotalux softboxes for the same price as the flashes alone were yesterday. (Say what you will about Elinchrom heads, but the Rotaluxes are hands-down the best on the market. And the 70cm Soflite reflector isn’t just another beauty dish either.) Or you can just take the Elinchrom-at-AlienBees-pricing and smile.
