I think it’s pretty awesome how you got the crazy side lighting to work, and then still managed to put a perfect pin-point catchlight in the eyes! The only thing that looks bad is the sharp shadow of the nose on the cheek, presumably from the catchlight. Other than that, I think this is pretty awesome! (The bare flash probably could have been put through a softbox or umbrella, to still create a subtle catchlight yet not make such harsh shadows… I don’t know for sure, of course; you’d have to experiment! :-D

Thanks Matthew Saville. Looking back at it, I should probably have put the flash straight in front, and maybe used  a soft box or an umbrella . I checked some of the others I did and the shadow was not on all of them so I am not sure what it is. I did like the determination on her face though so that’s why its my favorite.  Aside from that I see that my camera right flash is not totally even with the left side. The shadow started to bug me now:) But thank you so much for the for the critique.

I think it’s definitely still a great shot, and if the expression is best, that makes it the best shot, period, even if the lighting could use a minor tweak. Expression and emotion always trump other things. Besides, you could easily blend it just a little bit in photoshop, haha.
