    I think if you had panned a little more to the right would to open up the image.  also, there is a lot of looking into an ear, which the pan to the right may help.

    I often don’t leave enough negative space, thanks for the reminder :) Some space to his right would have helped. Thank you very much.

    I believe I agree with Brent here- the framing causes the viewer’s eye to not be sure what the main subject of the image is. The eyelash? the cheek? The hair? The nose? The ear? The viewer’s eye goes back and forth a little too much, and doesn’t settle on any one thing. The face as a whole could be the subject, however, if the shot had been either panned to the right, to simplify and open up the composition, …or if ithe whole shot had been zoomed out a little bit, I believe.

    Thanks Matthew! I’ll try a re-do with more emphasis on the eyes, less on the other facial features and more negative space.
