I would just like some general pointers as I am only just getting into photography and don't really know what I'm doing.

It is great to include foreground elements like this but with purpose. Right now the image is lacking the quantity of foreground elements to justify the purpose of including it.

At f/5.6 you see a bit too much of the background in focus. Lower aperture numbers yield greater depth of field. I would try and experiment so you see the difference.

    I suggest watching https://www.slrlounge.com/workshop/photography-101-trailer/

It will give you a great foundation if you are just getting into Photography!!

Use a longer lens. Background is too distracting. And don’t get discouraged when someone critiques your work.  Keep at it!  AND USE A LONGER LENS FOR PORTRAITS!  300mm minimum.
