    Uh, is that a railing on fire? Looks like a porch / balcony railing on fire. If so, I hope you put it out immediately after clicking the photo! :-)

    Regarding ways to improve, I think the main thing that stands out to me is the fact that a bright light is shining on the top flat parts of the boards or whatever they are, and that is distracting from the smoke and the flame. In this case, I don’t think the photo works with this crop, but it could work if the whole bottom bright zone was cropped out, and the shot itself was composed a little bit more up and to the right, to include more of the smoke.

    Alternately, zooming out to include more of the entire area would allow more of the story to be told of what is happening here, and I think that can be even more important than a close-up detail sometimes.
