Cinema Dehors: A Mixed Media Film Combining Traditional Animation And Timelapse Photography

By Hanssie on November 15th 2014

cinema-dehor-1We’ve seen many a timelapse video over the last few years. So many that we’ve become blasé about them and in our boredom, we’ve moved onto hyperlapses, timeslices and layer lapses.

To create something that people will pay attention to, especially in a very saturated market, takes lots of creativity and thinking outside of the box. Every once in a while a timelapse will pop up that stands out from the typical (though gorgeous) star trails, landscapes and Northern Light videos we’ve seen before. Cinema Dehors is one of those.

[REWIND: VEMODALEN: THE FEAR THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PHOTOGRAPHS IDENTICAL TO YOURS]

Filmmaker Filippo Rivetti and animator Tatiana Poliektova have teamed up to create a fun experiment combining both of their talents into one short film. Taking the traditional timelapse, Rivetti creates a beautiful backdrop to Poliektova’s animated characters. The little hairy mole-like creatures also bring a message –  stop your busyness, get your face away from whatever screen you’re in front of and enjoy the wonders of nature around you.

The juxtaposition of the majestic landscapes with the cutesy furry creatures with the added narrative makes this 2:39 minute film a fun watch and one you’ll do so a few times to be able to take it all in: the message, the landscapes, the animation. After that though, be sure to turn off the technology, go outside and enjoy the artistry that surrounds you in the natural world.
