Skier Creates Dizzying Bullet Time Effect By Swinging An iPhone 6

By Hanssie on February 8th 2016

Creating the Matrix-like Bullet Time Effect can be quite an expensive and time-consuming endeavor. Typically, you need an array of cameras to create the 360-degree footage that you want – which is costly in both time and money (this rig will run you about half a million dollars).

Sure there are hacks to get around that, such as this one camera spinning at 360-degrees, but skier Nicolas Vuigner came up with a way to make a unique video of him skiing using just his iPhone and some string. The footage from his rig is shown in the following video called, “Centriphone – an iPhone Experiment,” where he swings this contraption around his head as he skis. It took him almost two years of “tinkering and tweaking to achieve the result [he] was looking for.”

The result is a dizzying look (at many different angles set to slow motion) of flying powder and incredible views as he skis downhill. Nicolas says “No iPhones were harmed during the making of this video,” and that he uses the phone every day. He also promises a detailed video showing how he does it in the future.

Make sure to subscribe to his YouTube channel so you won’t miss his tutorial because this looks like a simple and super fun (and safe for your phone!) project.
