The announcement of the Canon 5Ds and 5DsR were some of the oddest in recent memory. Not only were they announced 6 months before availability, but pre-orders were not even an option from the get go.
If you were interested in pre-ordering one of these new cameras, the wait is almost over. According to B&H’s website, they will begin accepting pre-orders on the new 5Ds and 5DsR this upcoming Monday, March 23rd at 12AM EST.
No word yet on the shipping dates, but last official word was that both would be available in June. It will be interesting to see if that date changes since the latest rumors state that Sony will be announcing their own 50MP camera and shipping before Canon’s estimated date.

so i am already doing multi row panoramas say 30 photos total. is that basically the same results that you get with this camera? once all tiched together i have to reduce the size to 10,000 x something so my computer wont bog down from the image size
Not buying this one either… but I noticed something weird. Now, I can buy an AA filter for my 6D for about $300 if I want one. But strangely, Canon is charging about $200 more for the “R”, the one without the AA filter. Sounds like they give you a free AA filter with the regular 5S and charge you that $200 to remove it when you buy a 5S R. Just sayin’…
And while most camera shops are taking the pre-orders now, they’re not expecting to ship until June.
Great!! Checks bank balance – nope.
:))
No you had it right I’m frowning. My a6000 already outputs around 25mb. Get ready to burn through some storage. Still glad to see canon finally step up and acknowledge the competition for a change.
holy sheep dip batman!!!
that’s a 10200 x 6800 image ( guestimating… ) – and you are staring fown the barrel at a 100mb raw file @ 14bit…
dang!
typo: “… down the barrel.”
