Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera Reviewed and Compared with DSLR and Red Epic

By Anthony Thurston on October 9th 2013

The Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera is one of the biggest camera releases of this year, simply for what you are getting in that size for that money nothing even comes close to being such a great value… on paper that is. So how does the new BMPCC stack up in real life, and how about against known commodities like the Canon 5D Mark III and Red Epic?

Dave Dugdale just completed his in depth review and look at the BMPCC in what is probably one of the better reviews of that camera that I have seen to this point. But more importantly he comes at this thing like many of us would, from our experiences with DSLRs. That is what I think makes this review so great, it really gives us a good look at how the Pocket Cinema Camera is different when compared to shooting with the comfort of our DSLR.  Anyways enough of my blabbing, take a look at the review below!

I have not had the pleasure of trying this camera out yet myself, but after watching this review I think that although it is obviously much more work that my Canon 7D will be to create video the quality difference is really amazing. I am excited to get my hands on one of these in the future.

What are your thoughts on the BMPCC? Did this review sway you one way or the other? Let us know in the comments below!

ok so this needs to be titled “Pocket Cinema Camera ProREs vs H.264″… as we all know h.264 is dreadful in capturing color & light compared to RAW or ProRes… it just doesnt have the color space required to actually record what the 5d3 is seeing through it’s sensor… thats where MagicLantern RAW comes into play with the 5d3… game changer

thats the comparison i would like to see Pocket Camera Pro Res vs 5D3 ML RAW
