Behind the Scenes of the latest Vogue Australia Cover Shoot

By Anthony Thurston on May 21st 2013

I don’t know about you but I always love to watch behind the scenes videos. In this video we get to see what was going on behind the scenes at this Vogue Australia cover shoot featuring model Candice Swanepoel. Go ahead and watch the video and then we can sort of try and break down some of what is going on to increase the learning potential.

The Breakdown

The shot below gives us a pretty good look at one of the lighting setups used in the shoot. It appears that they were using flags to block what looks to be window light from the right of the model. In front of that is a large octabox (octagon shaped soft box) pointed down and in front of the model with a reflector pointed up towards the model to create a sort of clamshell light. It also looks like there may be another light to the left of the model but it is cut off in this shot so I can’t say for sure what it is.

The light setup above was used to great this finished photo that was used inĀ theĀ final magazine spread.

I like the look that the light helped to create. Good stuff. If you would like to checkout some more shots from this shoot you can always go grab a copy of Vogue Australia or take a look at them below.

I do agree with all of the concepts you have offered for your post.
They are very convincing and can certainly work.

Nonetheless, the posts are too quick for starters. Could you please lengthen them a bit from next time?

    Thanks for the post.

It’s almost the same setup which was used in Mango’s ads with Miranda Kerr. I prefer Mango’s results because imo softer light is more pleasing.
