9 New Sigma Lenses Rumored for 2014

By Anthony Thurston on September 9th 2013

We have said it before, we will say it again; Sigma has been on a tear the last year or so and it appears that they have no plans of letting up either. Earlier today the guys over at Photo Rumors compiled a list of over 9 Sigma lenses that are rumored to be slated for a 2014 announcement*.

Among the rumored lenses that stood out ot me the most was a new Sigma 24-70mm F/2 lens. I would imagine that this would be sigma’s answer to the wildly popular Tamron 24-70mm. Also on the list is mentioned the possibility of a new 50mm F1.4, a lens that I know many people have been asking Sigma to make since they started in this new direction.

Check out the full listing of rumored Sigma lenses below:

  • Sigma 24-105mm F/4 OS
  • Sigma 24-70mm f/2 OS HSM
  • Sigma 300mm f/2.8 OS
  • Sigma 400mm f/2.8 OS
  • Sigma 500mm f/4 OS
  • Sigma 600mm f/4 OS
  • Sigma 135mm f/1.8 DG OS
  • Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG
  • Sigma 50mm f/1.4

These rumored lenses would likely be announced at Photokina 2014, though in reality the announcements could come at any time. If you are a Sigma fan it looks like it will be an exciting year. It could be interesting to see if this increase in lens quality translates into better cameras as well (yes, in case you did not know Sigma also makes DSLR cameras).

What are your thoughts on these rumored lenses? Which ones on the list stand out to you ? let us know in a comment below!

*An announcement of course does not mean that it will be released for sure in 2014, but it is not a stretch to think that several of these rumored lenses will hit shelves in 2014.

I wish the 135mm had come to fruition.

Sigma 24-105 F4 released. No longer a rumor.

Sigma 50mm 1.4 sample show cased. No longer a rumor.

Many people holding their purchases, waiting for Sigma new releases. I am one. I am holding from buying Nikon 24-70, to wait for the Sigma 24-70 F2 and 50mm 1.4. After that I will ditch all my Nikon except the exceptional 14-24.

Why has Nikon reduced its lens prices in the last couple of months, as much as $400? To flood the market with Nikon lenses and strategically delay the imminent dominance of Sigma in the lens world with their exceptional, fairly priced lenses.

Hold on Second . Is this this this author’s predictions or actual rumors. I am for sure Sigma will not do all those things in one year. Seems it is hard to believe as Sigma produce 400mm f/2.8 OS + 500mm f/4 OS + 600mm f/4 OS in same year. It is lot to ask from a company.

I am happy if they at lease include OS to their existing 500mm f/4.5 lens and release new version as it is bit old lens but very good IQ for the price.

Contrary to others, I think Sigma should keep showing true love for us crop sensored. The big boys don’t really care for us and from what I see Sigma enjoys plenty of sales for dx/ef-s lenses. The 18-35 1.8 sells like crazy! Most folks carry an aps-c camera and Sigma can practically dominate the market if they keep up their game.

Less lens sales for Canikon, less FF converts… more effort to stay relevant! Oh, good times.

I bought the 35mm 1.4 ART as soon as it was released and it quickly became my favourite lens. Really sharp and quick focus. I’m really excited for the 135 f1.8 OS because I don’t have the steadiest of hands so the Canon 135mm has never been an option for me but if the Sigma OS works well enough then I think this could be another lens to fall in love with. I’ll be one of the first to buy whenever this lens is released.

I own the canon L 35 1.4 and the Sigma Art 35mm 1.4 and sometimes i think that the Sigma is better than the Canon, i am still waiting for the Sigma Art 24mm f1.4 and the 85mm art 1.2 to buy them right away!

there won’t be any sigma 85 f1.2 Art, don’t even dream it. Canon rules everyone on the 85mm for long long long time

Wow, would be very amazing if they really produce the 24-70mm with f2.0!!!

what’s the over/under on how many of these will be released with a sony alpha mount?…i’m guessing about …zero…thanks for nothing, Sigma…

My Sigma 35 f/1.4 art has more or less been welded to my camera since I picked it up. I have been holding off on buying any new glass until I see what Sigma does next. Although, they need to start releasing full frame glass not crop sensor lenses.

There move on providing free mount conversions is brilliant and certainly weighs into my purchasing decisions. Regardless, I am glad to see Sigma creating amazing glass for a fair price that will stay with me reguardless of what brand I am shooting.

Sigma 24-70 2.0 baby! Bring it on

  19. Sara

I love what Sigma has been producing lately, super excited about a new 50 1.4 and the 135 1.8! :)

These look amazing and I hope they deliver what they promise. My only experience in Sigma has been with the 30mm f1.4 for crop sensors that had unfortunate back focus issues – a really common issue if you google it. That made me lose confidence in going outside of Canon’s range of lenses. I’ve upgraded to full frame now but I wouldn’t buy a Sigma again until it has been well tried and tested by the market.

I think all future Sigma lens will be compatible with Sigma USB dock.
That will rectify all the AF issues

OMGeee! The 24-70 f/2 and that 135mm. If SIGMA throws down and makes the price less than a nice used automobile… then I might be able to slip one or both into the house without my Beautiful Bride throwing a fit!

  22. Ryan

Yes!!! Iv been holding off buying a new high quality 50mm hoping Sigma would come out with one under their new “art” line. Can’t wait!

Also the 135mm looks awfully compelling as well. The current Nikon one is an exceptional lens but it is so hopelessly dated.

24-70 F2.0 is pretty impressive, though I never really use zooms so not for me.

If the 400mm F2.8 can come in at a really attractive price wildlife photogs will be gleeful

I would love to get my hands on the 24-70 F2 OS, I would sell my Nikon 24-70 F2.8 for it, easily, if it’s sharp enough and the focus is quick.

Unfortunately the picture is a photoshopped picture of the 18-35 F1.8 and the 120-300 F2.8.

24-70 f2 OS HSM WOW yes please
    and 135 f1.8 yummy….

  26. Steve

    Nice to know this….
    24-70 f2 and 135 f1.8 are definitely on my radar :)

    | |
  27. Timon Wang

Definitely the 24-70 F2 OS. If implemented well, it’s a game changer, a zoom with both f2 and image stabilization. With the modern ISO ranges, this may be end to carrying around a 24/28/35/50, and even 85 1.4!

  28. Gerald lewis

That 24-70/2 may be a dangerous one for me i may sell my nikon 24-70/2.8 and trust me i’m in love with that lens, lord help me.
