Earlier today the popular photography network 500px announced their plans to greatly improve the functionality and features of their portfolio system. According to their blog announcing the coming soon changes 500px says they actually completely redesigned the portfolio system from the ground up to “bring you the best experience in creating professional-grade online portfolios for your photos”.
Details on what the exact features and capabilities are have not yet been released. But based on a few images released it appears that users will be able to select from themes(not unlike they can now) and will have the ability to modify those these via html and code changes. More details will be released in the weeks between now and the actual launch.
The new system will be made available to 500px “Awesome” members, but the upgrade comes at a price. In addition to announcing the new portfolios 500px has also stated their intention to increase the prices on all paying accounts. Starting May 1st Plus account membership will be $25 per year and Awesome Member ship will be $75 per year. There Is good news though for those of you who are currently paying 500px members, you can lock in your old price by simply purchasing or extending your Plus or Awesome membership prior to the May 1st deadline.
There will also be an early preview of the new portfolios available to anyone interested. You will need to leave a comment on their blog post stating that you want access to the preview and they will select some of the commenters to give access to the preview.
