No worries Stephen, your comment was a good reminder that I need to actually finish the series, haha. =)

I am actually going to try to get part two done tonight.

Hi Pye,

In that context, I've been a bit harsh - apologies. I look forward to the rest of the series. The code's lovely to look at by the way.

Stephen, the title may be a little deceiving. This is part of a 3 part series, each step in the series will take the portal page and SEO of the portal page one step further. So, as this is the first part, it is kind of just the primer to get everyone started.

You are right though, the final version will have everything that you mentioned and more.

Nice, but I wouldn't be pushing the "SEO ready" part of this so much.

If you want your website found in the search engines, you need some keyword rich text on the page - the more of it the better! I know this goes against what you want for the front page of a site such as this, but that's what the search engines thrive on.

You might also want to put your keywords at the start of the title tag (eg Denver Photograpic Studio | Brown's Studio) rather than just the name of the studio (eg Brown's Studio), unless your studio is so well known that more people will be searching for that than the keywords.

You should also use your keywords in the H1 tag instead of ENTER FLASH PORTFOLIO (or something similar). If you can't get your keywords into that link, then just make it a normal link and move the H1 somewhere else on the page, once again with something like Denver Photograpic Studio - Brown's Studio.

Using this home page, you'll probably find that Google sends most visitors to a deeper page (with more keyword rich text), bypassing the landing page.
