TheSlantedLens: Ring Light, Camera Chase, and Zombie Action!

Zombie-Soda-Shoot-Still by JP Morgan

Zombie-Soda-Shoot by JP Morgan & The Slanted Lens

JP Morgan of The Slanted Lens came out with a two-part video on their latest commercial work for Zombie Juice soda. The job entails both still photography and a video commercial.

With still photography, JP Morgan used the ring light and showed the pros and cons of this lighting tool. It’s a great way to see how you can use the ring flash, as well as understand its limitations.

A ring light used as a key light has a distinctive look to it that may or may not be to everyone’s liking, especially with the shadow halo that I’m not a fan of. Nevertheless, I think when it’s blended in with other lights and the shadow halo is not prominent, the ring light does make a nice glow on the skin. And I do like the reflector that he used to soften the ring light.

For the video commercial, JP Morgan shows us how to add a moving camera in filming to add excitement to your shoot. He used a Kessler Shuttle Pod rail and track system to move the camera through the car as the zombie chases female lead into and out of the car. Such movement adds complexity to any video shoot, but the payoff looks terrific.
