The Presets Tab – Setting Your Lightroom 3 Preferences

In this video tutorial, we are going to move from Lightroom’s General Preferences, on to the Preset preferences in the Preset Tab. By adjusting options in the Preset Tab of the Preferences dialogue, we are able to customize the way Adobe Photoshop Lightroom applies default develop settings to images. We can even specify certain develop settings to apply to cameras with specific serial numbers, images with a certain camera ISO setting, or even both.

This becomes extremely useful when say you want Lightroom to apply certain effects to cameras or images shot in a certain manner. For example, applying general settings like +20 Noise Reduction Luminance to images shot at 800 ISO and +35 Noise Reduction Luminance to images shot at 1600 ISO.

    A quick question and just to be sure, when you store the presets with the catalog, are you storing a copy of your presets used, or the presets used are then stored in that file   and moved from their original location.

      If you store presets within a catalog, they will only show up within that catalog. I don’t believe the actual files will move from the Lightroom Presets folder, they just won’t show up in any other catalog, until you add them to that catalog. It isn’t a function that I have found particularly useful, as I generally want access to all my presets. Unless, say perhaps you create catalog specific presets with each job that you do.
