New Sigma 50mm F/1.4 Only $790 According to Official Dealer

Gear & App Rumors March 18th 2014 1:19 PM 15 Comments

The Official Sigma dealer in the country of Belarus has listed the new Sigma 50mm f/1.4 at $790, a much better price than the previously rumored price of $1200. It is curious though, that this price is lower than that of the 35mm F/1.4 – but being as this is an official Sigma dealer it is hard to find much reason to doubt the price.

If this new Sigma 50mm f/1.4‘s improvements hold true to those that were leaked, and the performance is in fact on par with the Zeiss Otus, a price of $790 is amazing. It would still make it one of the most expensive 50mm F/1.4 lenses on the market, but the performance would more than make it worth the price. $790 is a price that I can see myself paying, along with trading in my old Sigma 50mm f/1.4, so I hope this price is accurate, or at least in the ballpark.

At any rate, I would expect some sort of official announcement from Sigma on this within the next 3-4 weeks if they are going to hit their goal of getting the Canon mount version of the lens out by the end of April.

What are your thoughts on this new rumored price? Is $790 a good number or is this still too much in your mind? Leave a comment below to join the discussion.

I may have to trade in my old Canon 50mm for this.

I’m a Nikon fan-boy, but I absolutely do love their Art series 35mm. Sharp as sin. Enough I own one and use it more than most other lenses.

With that said, I wish I liked the 50mm focal length. Otherwise I’d be all over this. I do wish it was a 55 or even 60mm.

It will NOT be 50mm. The old one is 46mm and the new one is probably the same. Look at the size in the comparizon between the Nikkor 50 1.4G, and the 58 1.4 G and you will se that the new Sigma is not 50mm.

Unreal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Canon 50 mm f/1.2L was my favorite lens until it got destroyed in a car accident. If this lens is superior for that at a cheaper price, man !!!!! Mind blowing !!!

I’ve used nikons 50 1.4d, 50 1.4 g and 58 1.4g and still have not found the lens I’ve been lookin for. I started to fall in love with the sigma 50mm 1.4 – although it has frequent focusing problems. I trusted that they’d be better and got the sigma 35 1.4 and fell in love. If sigma hits it out of the park the same way they did with the 35, they’ll prove that 3rd party lenses aren’t 3rd party anymore. I haven’t been excited about nikon products ever since the d3s, that being said, let’s hope sigma delivers.

Man, I just bought the Nikkor 50mm 1.4G, I did score it brand new for a very very low price, but I got it cause a big local photo company told me the price will be over $1000 . Oh well I’ll go order the sigma art 35mm 1.4

Great deal, and certainly less than the over priced Canon lens

My 35 1.4 ART rocks….I expect no difference from the new 50 , and if the reports are accurate, performance will be even better.- and if all holds true, and the price does come in under $800- it will make it’s way into my bag.

The price is too low to be true. I remember paying 6 000 SEK for the old one when it was new. That was something like $ 750,00 at the time. I would gladly pay $ 1 200.00 for a really amazing lens.

I’m a Canon user and I currently have the original sigma 1.4f lens. Love the lense, but I’m excited to see what the new lens will be like. If love to trade in my old one only if it will be an upgrade based on performance.

The original Sigma 50mm f/1.4 is a gem, not perfect, but still the best 50 I’ve used. Never had any AF issues on my D700, and it has survived a lot of use and abuse. If you can’t afford the new one, pick up a secondhand bargain!
