There are many reasons why we love the guys over at Fstoppers. Not only are they awesome, but they do awesome stuff, like Lee Morris reviewing the new Nikon Df…disguised as a hipster. This hilariously appropriate video first shows Lee “preparing” to test out the camera, by getting a haircut and a shave and putting on a plaid shirt over a cat t-shirt. Hipster style.

Fstoppers’ Lee Morris “dressing the part” for his Nikon Df review

As he gives his opening thoughts of the new retro style camera from Nikon, Lee says “What do I know? I’m only a professional photographer that’s used every single pro DSLR Nikons ever made.” So, he went into town to get the public opinion on the Nikon Df. Based on Lee’s random interactions on the street, Nikon has made a nice looking, “shiny” camera, as opposed to the “practical and boring” looking  Nikon D800. However, only time will tell if people will pick it up the “cool-looking” camera with a near $3,000 price tag.

After taking a few images on the street, such as the one below, Lee had a few pros and cons of the Nikon Df he shared in his article, which you can read here.

After using the camera for a few days, Lee says he still isn’t sure who the camera was made for. And in the end, he sticks by his original thoughts about the camera, saying:

“I’m honestly really excited that Nikon is doing something “different” but at the same time I would hate to see this camera, which I believe in many ways is a massive step backwards, become the best selling “pro” camera simply because it looks cool. We buy things every day because of the way they make us feel and that’s fine. I believe this camera will bring a lot of people a lot of joy. I just don’t want you to forget that we are supposed to enjoy photography, and not just being fashionable photographers.”

SLR Lounge’s Df Review

We have already published an introductory opinion of the Nikon Df, from the perspective of professional wedding and portrait photography.  In short, we pretty much agree with Lee’s conclusions about the Df.  Its awesomeness is unfortunately overshadowed by its impracticality.

However we have more to come!  Matthew Saville has also taken the Df on a tour of the American Southwest, and we are currently working on that “adventure report” now.  Stay tuned!
