Interview with Nikon USA

Lindsay Silverman, Senior Product Manager for Nikon USA, was good enough to take some time out of his busy day during WPPI 2011 to show us a few new Nikon toys for 2011.

I think all of you Nikon fan-boys and fan-girls are going to get a kick out of these new goodies. Especially their new ultimate walk-around-lens the Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5 – 5.6G ED VR AF-S Nikkor Zoom Lens.

Check it out, along with everything else in the interview below, enjoy!

Yeah I’ve always seen Nikon as a “from the ground up” kinda company. While Canon focuses on convincing beginners that “if pros shoot pro Canon, I should buy beginner Canon” …Nikon oppositely has simply made DANG GOOD beginner cameras that make figuring things out VERY easy. The built-in camera help has been around for a long time actually, Nikon has had a “?” button forever and I honestly haven’t read a camera manual for more than 30 seconds since 2005…

In other news, wow Nikon needs to put ME in charge of their WPPI booth, LOL. If I were a new wedding photographer and I saw those first few items, (the zooms and stuff) … I wouldn’t want to shoot Nikon for weddings! At a wedding photography convention, they should just skip the “travel zooms” and go straight to that really important part about how ACCURATE the 85 1.4 etc. are in low light. Low light accuracy is certainly one of the most important things to a photojournalist, and in my opinion it is one of Nikon’s main performance selling points for me as a Nikon shooter. Having shot with both the Canon 85 1.2 L and the old / new Nikon 85′s, I have to say that the new Nikon AFS primes are MAGIC. It is simply uncanny how accurate they are at nailing focus in really dark situations. Wide open, 3200 or 6400, and they just snap perfectly into focus, track moving subjects perfectly, etc. It is just insane. But I digress. That is what I would talk about if I were a Nikon rep at a wedding photography convention. ;-)
