Imogen Heap Photographed by Jeremy Cowart

In Profoto’s latest The Master Series video interview, well-known celebrity photographer and founder of Help-Portrait Jeremy Cowart discusses the art behind the shot of singer/songwriter Imogen Heap.  With a pre-visualized concept in mind, Cowart  transforms the image of Heap holding a moose head into the resulting artistic masterpiece.

The original image itself is fairly simple.  Utilizing only one 3×4 softbox at a 45 degree angle directly in front of the model, Cowart only spent about 15 minutes to get the shot.  He then takes this image along with some of his stock photos into Photoshop, and brings it all together to create this ethereal photo of Imogen Heap. This is why he shoots a lot of stock images during his “down time” for situations like this, where he’s able to pull and grab photos of backgrounds and skies as needed.

Creativity is not limited to using just one tool at a time, and this is a great example of how you could take a photograph to another level by combining multiple art forms.
