[Framed] Joel Grimes on Softer Edge Sports Lighting

Joel-Grimes-6-Softer-Edge-Sports-Lighting

Joel Grimes revisits a variation of his signature 3-lights edgy sports lighting and softens the light using a larger light source courtesy of a large octabank for his key and larger softboxes for his edge lights. The primary reason that Joel opts for the softer light is that because his post-processing technique adds a lot of gritty-ness and contrast to the final image, and using a softer, less-contrasty image to begin with can give him more room to play around with the degree of contrast to add.

I love that Joel doesn’t cut out him tinkering with the lights. It helps me cope with my methods when I see they’re JUST like his. Thanks for posting! Very reassuring.
