    Crown

    Hi there!

I was shooting some droplets not that long ago, figured out, that I post one or 2 photos for you to judge.

Question in general: are there any 'rules' one must follow in this kind of photography?

Well, seems moot now that Mr. Pye himself has commented ... ;-) but I do like this shot. Would like to know more about how you shot this.

The only thing that I find a bit distracting is the background, especially that bright spot on the upper right. A tighter crop would fix that too.

To be honest, in this type of photography you just pray and spray (or buy special equipment to measure and release. As for the setup:
One Sb-900, standing on the upper right, on top one silver reflector, on the left next reflector (I own one speedlight.
Material used: 1:1 water:milk combo If you want to know anything else, I'll be happy to anwser.

    Cheers.

I like your newer crop much better. The 1:1 milk water gives it an almost 'outer space' galaxies being pulled together feel.

While I haven't tried this type of shot before, I would love to see what other 1:1 mixes could do. But to improve on this shot, perhaps doing the same thing, only waiting for something with more detail to it and, if at all possible, slightly larger drops coming from the crown.

This type of photography takes time and patience, which is why I have yet to attempt it. Maybe sometime soon...

You can check my 500px page for more liquid combos (oil, soy sauce, etc), everything easy accesible, cheap etc. I'm no pro, I just spent 3 or so hours using home-made setup to create some photos. Best thing about it is to have fun

Brother, I couldn't have said it better myself. If you're not having fun, what the hell are you doing. I work weekends (Everyday really) but I'll give this type of shot a try sometime this week and post it. Let's see if I can add to the pool...
