    Pole Vaulter

Hi everyone - this is my first post. I have really enjoyed the YouTube videos, so I thought I would submit an image and give it a try.

I shot this image of a pole vaulter earlier this summer during an open track and field event. I had to get super low to the ground to make sure there were no distracting elements in the background - just the blue sky.

    I took this on a Canon 7D with a Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS.

In Lightroom I wanted to create a little bit of a "hard" look without going extreme, and I did this by boosting the contrast, clarity and vibrance.

Let me know your thoughts, please!

Hi Caleb and welcome I find the share and copy of the bbcode from Flickr (need to select the other radio button) will embed your image successfully into your forum post (if you use advanced edit in here you can preview to ensure it's embedded correctly took me several attempts to get it right when I first came here!) the HTML embed doesn't work for me either but bbcode does
Love the shot, good angle though I would have liked to see more of her face - post production is excellent!

For a sports shot I think this is great. Your composition is good and it's very clear. In post you did a good job of editing and bringing out the clarity and such; it looks very realistic and no one would know that it was edited, and yet it's still vibrant.

I also like your angle; great choice at shooting from there.

Hi there. Welcome to the forum.

Like the photo. It's great that you thought it through and removed any distractions from the composition. Like SnutzUK, I wish we could see more of her face. As for the composition, I feel she's a little far to the right of the frame. Also, given this is a pole-vault, perhaps portrait orientation would have accentuated the hight?

The exif data's gone from the flickr page, but what focal length was this shot at?

Thanks for the help on embedding the image, SnutzUK! I copied the BBcode in and it worked.

Thanks for the compliments, everyone! I agree, I wish I had more of her face as well.

Here is another shot, and this one has more of the athlete's face in it.

Hey there. I much prefer the odd angle you have captured the man in. He has a good expression too.....I like the editing and composition. Did u have to crop much or is this as you captured it? Like Christophe said, Portrait could work better and if I was being overly picky, I would like to see more of the pole simply to exaggerate the height he is at. Overall, a good capture. Best wishes. Dave
