Drobo should not be used. It is a very nice product on the surface, however it uses proprietary file system and in the event you have a disaster and need to recover the raid your options will be limited and VERY expensive. I am suprised that QNAP was not mentioned. It is my solution and I did a lot of research after paying a small fortune to recover my Drobo via DriveSavers.

I have a drobo FS... it's a NAS with an ethernet cable... but hell, it takes forever to transfer shit over wifi lol. It needs USB 3.0/firewire/thunderbolt connection.

Gotta get rid of it~

What about the speed on the wireless connection of the Synology, compared to the others with direct connection?

And concerning reliability: interesting that you prefer the Drobo over the G-tech, while Scott Kelby's experience is the opposite. Any thoughts about that?

What other NAS devices have you tested? We are using 2 Netgear ReadyNAS products and have had a great experience, but I was thinking of trying a QNAP NAS next. What made the Synology stand out above the rest?

Thanks
