Welcome to Part VIII of the Professional Photoshop Retouching Series on SLR Lounge.

In this Photoshop tutorial we are going to be working on cleaning up the remaining hair and line detail in the image.

This tutorial is not for the faint of heart. We are going to be using every retouch technique we have learned so far, along with some new ones to fully clean up this image. That is why we saved this video as the final retouch video in the series.

Now, we don’t waste any time in this video, but the video does clock in at nearly 25 minutes to teach all of the techniques while working through the image. But, I can assure you will be much better at retouch after watching, so stick through it!

Welcome to Part VII of the Professional Photoshop Retouching Series on SLR Lounge.

In this Photoshop tutorial we are going to be working on how retouch and enhance the eyes.

Now, it is important when retouching eyes to make sure you don’t go too far. But, what exactly is too far? Well, that is up for you to decide. For example, often times in retouching basic portraits for a client, the eye enhancements are rather subtle. However, in fashion and advertising you will see very heavy eye enhancements if you look closely. So, I will leave this up to your personal discretion.

Before we continue, we do want to give credit where credit is due. A couple of our techniques in this video are adapted from Sean Armenta of the FStoppers. Sean is a professional retoucher and is quite amazing at what he does.

Welcome to Part VI of the Professional Photoshop Retouching Series on SLR Lounge.

In this Photoshop tutorial we are going to be working on how to soften and smooth skin when needed.

Before we get started let me preface this with a little warning. Skin softening and smoothing is often overused and overdone when used. When overdone, skin softening will make your subjects skin look too soft and smooth like a porcelain doll. It will be very noticeable, and it will be obvious that the image was Photoshopped.

So, when should you smooth over skin? Skin smoothing and softening is necessary when your subjects have very coarse skin or large pours. The majority of subjects in your image will require some blemish and line reduction, but will not need skin softening. You shouldn’t soften skin simply to cover blemishes that are better off being healed out. So, when you do use it, be sure to keep it subtle and light handed.
