What defrag does is that it puts information that is relevant to eachother close together so that the arm on a mechanical drive don’t have to travel all over the disk to get the info..

According to Adobe, LR3 has improved its database function and doesn’t run more slowly if the catalog is large. My own experience doesn’t support this claim, though.
